BlackBerry Storm 9500 Review

Strengthen its position as the giant vendor's smart phone, Research In Motion (RIM) again presents the newest BlackBerry 9500 series or better known by the codename BlackBerry Storm. Mobile phone touch screen premiere, touted as a competitor to Apple's iPhone. What are the advantages?
Unlike the previous series BlackBerry, the BlackBerry Storm is more favored than the multimedia functions of business features. This can be seen from the technology SurePress (SurePress Technology) on the touch screen, which won the Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough at the Global Mobile Awards on the sidelines of MWC 2009, Barcelona, 16-19 February 2009.
SurePress technology is technology that has a touch screen button bouncy effects (haptic feedback) like a regular physical button. Is arguably a unique form of technology from RIM. Because, in previous series, RIM has been popular as the creator of the BlackBerry device with a typical QWERTY keyboard layout that has many business functions.
Features
Nothing too special other than the BlackBerry. Storm is just charming as touch screen technology. Other features almost the same as the BlackBerry, the BlackBerry model candybar. Call it, a number of specific work applications on the platform of the BlackBerry OS, Document Editor (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint). It also contained an HTML browser for browsing and facilities of SMS, MMS, E-mail, to Instant Messaging (IM).
BlackBerry
Storm for e-mail, users can create free e-mail account (up to eight accounts), such as Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, and so on. E-mail facilities can be optimized with any POP3 e-mail to corporate. Just like other BlackBerry e-mail feature on the Storm is quite practical. File e-mails will be automatically rendered first by the BlackBerry server. Thus, at once the setting is made more friendly. Users can also attach an attachment format. Jpg,. Pdf,. Doc,. Xls and. Ppt when sending e-mails.
As for IM, in addition to BlackBerry Messenger, users are allowed to download additional applications such as GoogleTalk, Skype, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, and so on according to user needs. BlackBerry Storm has adopted a built-in Java. So that the Java-based applications can run properly as long as it is able to support the BlackBerry OS.
Multimedia
Storm, which was equipped with a speakerphone, a 3.5mm audio jack port, also embedded media player (which supports MP3, WMA, and AAC +) and video player (which supports MPEG4, 3gp, H.264, WMV up). Not to forget the voice dial and voice memo to allow a user in making a call or just a reminder.
Meanwhile, in addition to GPS and BlackBerry Maps as a signpost, the Storm also enabled dipermewah with 3.15 MP camera (2048x1536 pixels) with digital zoom, auto-focus and LED flash. Not only to take pictures, this camera also works for moving pictures.
9500 Storm can also be equipped with additional applications, such as Viigo, Facebook, Opera Mini, and the like, as long as no more than 1GB of internal storage. Users can add storage capacity with microSD up to 16GB.
Connectivity
To transmit data or files to another device or PC, available on the Storm mini-USB 2.0 cable and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP. The USB cable can also be used for data synchronization and charging. While it can be for the bluetooth handsfree and A2DP stereo headsets.
Special data services (internet), in Indonesia, while the BlackBerry is working with three major telecom operators, ie, XL, Indosat, and Telkomsel. Axis will follow later this month. Nothing is more special, similar to the Bold, Storm also able to conduct internet-enabled 3G/HSDPA.
In addition, for data access, Storm also supports GPRS class 10 (32-48 kbps) and EDGE class 10 (236.8 kbps). Unfortunately, in the era before the WiMax technology, the premium is just not equipped with a WLAN modem, so it does not have Wi-Fi feature.
Design
Clayey front side, the Storm look elegant with a glossy screen that extends vertically. Four buttons at the bottom of the screen, making it seem not adventurous. Bravo!
Speaking further screen, of Storm 'juara'nya among the ranks of other BlackBerry, because only the pinned Storm touch-screen technology 65K colors sized 3.25-inch 360x480 pixel resolution.
The ability of the screen is equipped with a backlight that is able to maintain the image is clear and bright even in sunlight. Everything feels more complete with accelerometer sensor for auto rotation (auto-rotate) by means of gravity.
Performance
BlackBerry Storm
For about three weeks VIVAnews observed, the Storm's performance was no better than the Bold. It found no problems about the system or machine. However, to speed the process, the Storm defeated when juxtaposed with the Bold.
BlackBerry large StormKemungkinan is caused by a processor that is not better. Storm adopts Qualcomm MSM7500 chip speed 528MHz with 128 MB of RAM memory. Bold has better specs, which is capable processor at 624MHz with a memory capacity, 128MB. Very surprising considering the Storm is touch screen devices, while the Bold candybar without a touch-screen technology.
This is worsened by a less sharp evaluation by RIM about the time required for start-ups. When the Bold takes 4-5 minutes, the Storm was not much different. Ironically again, with rich multimedia features, the Storm battery capacity even worse than the Bold, only Li-Ion 1400 mAh, while the Bold 1500 mAh. As a result, the Storm is only able to survive one day in the corridors of normal use. Naturally, the selling price of the Storm become slow from day to day, from Rp 8.5 million since its launch to about 5.6 million per unit.
Pros:
- Fast internet, 3G/HSDPA support for infrastructure
- Touch screen technology SurePress
- Very good quality voice calls
BlackBerry Storm
- Dual-mode functionality for roaming, EV-DO Rev A and UMTS / HSDPA
- 3.2 MP camera-enabled
Disadvantages:
- Does not support Wi-Fi, FM radio, flash or flash-based animation
- A slow process, limited processor capabilities, can not video call
- Battery wasteful, more extravagant than any other candybar BlackBerry
- E-mail is valid only with the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS)
- SurePress technology makes this phone is really limited to the multimedia category, because it is not very helpful for editing text
